A major obstacle is still out there: Getting on the ballot in Massachusetts as an independent for U.S. Senate requires tens of thousands of dollars to pay petitioners.

Libertarian Party supporter Joe Kennedy is not related to the late U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, whose tragic death led to the special election now under way.
